There was a lot more this could have offered. I will say, I was really enjoying this more personal version of the game and am a bit upset that it was so short. Much of the story is told through dialogue heavy cutscenes, but the saving grace is that the voice acting and world building is absolutely top notch. You go on several missions and take on the enemies that you are directed to. The story in this is rather straightforward. It lets you have fun with loadouts but keeps the concept of the character the same. There is an element of characters customization in this title but it is not over the top. In the Zerg missions, with the right equipment, you can become a monster killing machine and its amazing fun. Most of the solo missions follow Nova running around attempting to take out as many enemies as possible while avoiding traps, cones of vision, and overwhelming enemy numbers. This diversity was very well received and there were even a few segments, like the highway chase scene, that absolutely blew my mind as it stretched the capabilities of the game engine. There is a significant amount of base building and exploration, like you’d find in Age of Empires, but there’s also an XCOM 2 inspired segments that have you take control of Nova as she battles or sneaks through enemy lines on solo missions. So, the gameplay in StarCraft II: Nova Covert Ops follows the tried and tested formula set out by its predecessors. If you are a fan of this franchise, you have come to the right place.

There is a lot to like about this game as it tries a few new things that really lend to its uniqueness. This title provides players with an interesting linear tale where you take control of Nova, a psionic operative who must complete a series of missions for her commander.

StarCraft II: Nova Covert Ops is a downloadable expansion that offers a unique story set after the main one found in the original game.
